During the second Thinking Lab Summit in Paris, Orange Magazine spoke to Patrícia Lisa and Ilias Antoniou about Migration & Integration. Here are their opinions.
The Thinking Lab on Migration & Integration focuses on one of the most crucial challenges currently faced by the European Union. Within one year, based on the diverse experiences Southern European countries and Germany have so far gathered, the Lab will deliver a genuine European perspective on migration and integration policy. The concept of “people on the move” rather than “refugees” or “migrants” remains the center of the debate.
On 26 May 2017, the Spanish Commission for Refugees (CEAR) published a report on the impact of the agreement reached last year by the European Union and Turkey in order to stop irregular migration from Turkey. Irene Wolf, contributor of the Thinking Lab on Migration & Integration, is part of the team that worked on this report, which states that this agreement has turned Greece into a large refugee camp where effective protection cannot be guaranteed.
On 13-15 October 2017, #DialogueOnEurope contributors from eight European countries will meet in Rome for the third and last European Thinking Lab Summit. This three-day meeting will give them the opportunity to further discuss the four main topics of the project, namely Migration & Integration, Populism, Social Cohesion and Sustainable Growth, and to finalise their policy recommendations for European decision-makers through various work and exchange sessions. Following up on the first European Thinking Lab Summit, which took place in Lisbon in November of last year, and only one month after the last #EuropeanTownHall meeting in London, the DIALOGUE ON EUROPE Contributors gathered again on 24-26 March in Paris for the Second Thinking Lab Summit, hosted by Das Progressive Zentrum in cooperation with our French partner EuropaNova.
The European Union is in distress. On the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome this has become an ever-present issue, which the #DialogueOnEurope seeks to address. The gathering of various members of civil society aims to find new insights and solutions to the Union’s most prevalent problems.

The 2nd European Thinking Lab summit took place in Paris from March 24-26, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome. Orange Magazine, a project by the European Youth Press, covered the conference with various articles.
Four months after the successful kick-off of the Thinking Labs in Berlin, the DIALOGUE ON EUROPE Contributors met again on 25-27 November in Lisbon during the First Thinking Lab Summit hosted by Das Progressive Zentrum together with our Portuguese partner, the Institute of Public Policy.
This website is designed as a platform for the DIALOGUE ON EUROPE. The DIALOGUE ON EUROPE is a transnational dialogue process with next generation thinkers and practitioners. It is based on four Thinking Labs: Migration & Integration, Populism, Social Cohesion and Sustainable Growth. In each Thinking Lab, 15 European personalities from civil society are developing new ideas together. They publish opinions, analyses, interviews, studies, and later on, policy recommendations. We will keep on publishing their contributions here – so this platform will grow and keep you up to date. If you are interested in contributing, please share your opinion pieces or analyses.
